Being named the “Golf Capital of Tennessee” is not a case of local officials looking for a catchy moniker. The title is well deserved with 9 championship courses and 162 holes of pure golfing pleasure. These courses are all well designed and maintained, catering to handicaps large and small. Over half a million rounds of golf are played on average each year in beautiful Crossville – Cumberland County, Tennessee, and that number grows annually.
From Tennessee’s famous Fairfield Glade community to Jack Nicklaus’ Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain State Park and Historic Lake Tansi Resort on the 550-acre Lake Tansi, there’s a course to suit anyone’s golfing desires in the “Golf Capital of Tennessee.”
Situated atop Tennessee’s Cumberland Plateau, the climate is enjoyable year-round. Winter temperatures are typically in the 40s and 50s, summer highs average in the 80s, and in the fall and spring, temperatures are as close to perfect as can be. Crossville and Cumberland County are also centrally located right off Interstate 40, less than 90 minutes from Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga.
Druid Hills is always in great condition and has undulating greens. You definitely are tested to chose the right clubs off the tee and into the greens. This course offers some of the most scenic views of the golf courses in the area.

The Mid-South Conference Men’s and Women’s NAIA Golf Championship was held at Bear Trace Golf and brought in an estimated 300 people with the assistance of the CCCSEC. Assistance was given to help with securing the golf course and hotels as well as sharing details on local restaurants and convenience stores to help navigate out-of-town guests during their 6 day stay on the Cumberland Plateau.
The Cumberland County/Crossville Sports Council has played an integral part in helping us secure the Mid-South Conference Men's and Women's NAIA Golf Championships. This event brings an estimated 300 people to the community during the early spring. The golf course, local hotels, restaurants and convenient stores all benefit from these out of town guests during their six days on the Plateau. We are proud of the partnership with have developed with the Sports Council and look forward to adding future events with their help.

The Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain is one of the most sought-after sites among the Jack Nicklaus-designed Bear Trace courses in Tennessee. The 6,900-yard (gold tees), par 72 layout features a design that capitalizes on elevation changes as well as natural features such as flowing brooks and clustered, mature pines. As is typical in Jack Nicklaus Signature courses, there are many risk/reward opportunities for all levels of golfers.

With it’s secluded, scenic views, Dorchester Golf Club is a favorite. By today’s standards, it’s not long, but the Bentgrass greens, narrow tree-lined fairways, strategically placed bunkers and water on 8 of the 18 holes, make it a challenge for even skilled golfers. Dorchester’s first hole has water coming into play off the men’s tee box and again approaching the green. A creek running through the back nine comes into play on three holes you’ll be talking about for awhile. The beautiful Dorchester clubhouse is a great way to relax with food and drinks after enjoying this gorgeous golf course.

Druid Hills is perched at the highest point on the NE side of Cumberland County creating dramatic mountain views that extend for miles. The course has rolling tree-lined fairways, plenty of water and undulating Bentgrass greens. The second shortest of our five golf courses, Druid Hills is also the second most difficult. Side hill lies, elevated approaches and greens that are difficult to read. Druid Hills is a position/placement course with several doglegs, so ball placement off the tee (not always with a driver) is essential.

Who’s up for a 36 hole day? You can do it here with lunch between rounds. Heatherhurst Golf Club offers two beautiful courses, The Crag and the Brae.
On the Brae course, the front 9 provides the most challenge, including a double dogleg fairway on the 4th hole, said to the toughest par 5 in TN. The back 9 offers three par 3’s, three par 4’s, and three par 5’s with undulating fairways and encroaching sand bunkers. Number 10 is a par 5 that moves down hill to a green overlooking Lake Dartmoor. The Brae is the only course in the area with Zoysia grass fairways.

The Crag course is more player-friendly with tee locations ranging from the most forward Green tees at 3,600 yards, to the Blue tees at 6,200. Bentgrass tees and greens, wide fairways-great for short hitters, and strategically placed sand bunkers add to the fun. The 17th is the Crag’s signature hole. The teeing areas sit on an overlook that will have you pausing to take in the view. Although the 17th is a short hole, driving accuracy is important. A favorite among our furry and feathered friends, don’t be surprised to see deer and turkey on the Crag course.

Your outstanding golf experience begins with our beautiful park-like setting. The greens are undulating and consistently quick. The course puts a premium on well placed shots and features five sets of tees ranging from 6701 – 4579 yards in length. The layout is player-friendly while also challenging at all levels.

Stonehenge Golf Club ranks as one of Tennessee’s top courses. It is host to four statewide championships throughout the year; the Senior Open, Women’s Open, Father/Son Championship and the Tennessee Cup Team Matches. Architect Joe Lee took the rolling, wooded Cumberland Plateau and created a beautiful mountain layout with Bentgrass greens, tees and fairways. Now the fun begins! Natural rock outcroppings come into play on several holes, and a stone retaining wall runs along the left and rear of the signature 14th hole, a downhill par 3. Mixed in are 65 bunkers just to make it interesting. After golf, Stonehenge Grille is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail and delicious food following a memorable day on the course.

The 18-hole, par 72 course has four sets of tees. With some blind shots, sand traps and several water hazards, this course is a challenge for the best golfer, yet tame enough for the novice. You will also find a practice green, driving range and a nice pro shop.

Features such as the signature Par 3 island green, and the fact that the course boasts both the longest and shortest holes in Cumberland County, make the Ron Garl-designed River Run a memorable test of golf. Water and tree hazards come into play on almost every hole.

One of the things I enjoy most about playing golf at Lake Tansi is how the course is designed and how beautiful it’s aesthetic layout is thought through. This is one of the most beautiful courses you’ll play without the high price. I don’t know how they do it.
